Your Vermont Bookstores

With Borders slowly going under and its future in question, there’ll no doubt be a number of obituaries written for the regular bookshop around the world. We don’t like that, and we don’t think that the traditional bookstore is going anywhere – this is a challenge that will be met, and while some stores might vanish, others will succeed.

With that in mind, we were wondering something: how many bookstores are actually in Vermont? We counted just under a hundred (that we could find), ranging from rare book dealers to the smaller local bookstore to the larger chain stores. 1. As a friend pointed out, book stores aren’t going away any time soon simply because there are so many damn books in the world.

The chains may collapse and the market shrink to second hand and small print runs, but it’ll be there for a long time to come for small scale dealers.
